In May 2012 Lyfjaráð ÍSÍ, the Iceland ISI Anti-Doping Committee, has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Player after her sample tested positive for the prohibited substance clenbuterol.
At the time of the violation the Player had just become 18 years old. The ISI Tribunal approved the request of the athlete to publish the verdict anonymously. The Player argued that she was from a small town and that could harm her to have her name publicly published.
The Player admitted the use of the substance with the purpose to lose weight. She used the substance not for handball, but for the training of a fitness competition. The Player did not know the substance can improve sport performance and gave the ISI information about the persons who provided her with the substance.
The Player´s lawyer filed documents from her school and psychology. They stated that the Player is diagnosed with ADHD and is quite impulsive, attended cognitive and behavioural therapy and has a very low self-esteem.
Considering the circumstance, the ISI Tribunal decides to impose a 6 month period of ineligibility on the Player, starting on 30 March 2012.
