ISI 2004_4 ISI Anti-Doping Committee vs Eygerði Ingu Hafþórsdóttur

In August 2004 the Lyfjaráð ÍSÍ, the Iceland ISI Anti-Doping Committee, has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after her A and B samples tested positive for the prohibited substance ephedrine. After notification the Athlete filed a statement in her defence. The Athlete stated that during the competition in July 2004 she suffered from stomach and diarrhea troubles and therefore used supplements. Hereby she unintentionally used ginseng tablets, purchased in the United States, due to these tablets look the same as the supplements she used and she did not know it contained a prohibited substance.

Without intention to enhance her sport performance the ISI Tribunal decides to reprimand the Athlete and the disqualification of the Athlete’s competition results obtained in July 2004.
