FISA 2014 FISA vs Yana Suzdaltseva

In June 2014 RUSADA has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete Yana Suzdaltseva after het sample tested positive for the prohibited substance metandienone.
After notification the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron (FISA), the World Rowing Federation, ordered a provisional suspension. The Athlete waived her right to be heard for the FISA Doping Hearing Panel and submitted the FISA questionnaire without a further statement in her defence.

The Athlete submitted that she had used non-prescribed clenbuterol, purchased in a drug store, as treatment for her bronchitis in May 2014.
The FISA Panel did not accept the Athlete’s explanation, due to she was tested positive for the substance metandienone, not for clenbuterol. Therefore the FISA Doping Hearing Panel decides on 30 September 2014 to impose a 2 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 30 September 2014.
