SUMMARY
Doping use by elite athletes is a highly sensitive subject. Every positive case is considered big news, and the better the athlete is known, the larger the media attention will be. This amount of attention is in great contrast with the actual knowledge that exists about elite athletes who use doping. What do they know
about the subject? On the basis of what information or other reasons does an athlete choose to use doping or not? And, finally, is it possible to estimate the actual magnitude of doping use in the Netherlands? By request of the Netherlands Centre for Doping affairs, TNO Prevention and Health has studied this subject in order answer these questions.
