In September 2017 the National Anti-Doping Group of the Colombian Institute of Sport (Coldeportes) has reported and anti-doping rule violation against the minor weightlifter (12) and his Coach Ricardo Ballestros after the sample of the minor Athlete tested positive for the prohibited substance Furosemide.
Before the Disciplinary Commission of the Colombian Weightlifting Federation (FEDEPESAS) the parents of the minor Athlete didn’t know that the substance was used and the Athlete stated that for his urine problems his coach provided medication to him.
The Coach admitted the violation and stated that he had this medication for his own kidney problems and he provided this medication to the minor Athlete before the competition.
The Disciplinary Commission finds that the Coach committed the anti-doping rule violation and accepts that it was unintentional. Therefore the Disciplinary Commission decides on 17 October 2017 to impose a 4 year period of ineligibility on the Coach and to acquit the minor Athlete with a warning for using medication without a TUE.
