SAIDS 2019_41 SAIDS vs Melissa Van Vuuren

In May 2019 the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete Melissa Van Vuuren after her sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Phentermine.

After notification the Athlete gave a prompt admission, waived her right for a hearing, accepted a provisional suspension and the sanction proposed by SAIDS.

The Athlete accepted the test result and she co-operated with SAIDS. She could not explain how the substance entered her system and analysis of her supplements revealed no prohibited substances.

SAIDS finds that the Athlete's sample established the presence of a prohibited substance and accordingly that she committed an anti-doping rule violation. Considering the Athlete's co-operation SAIDS decides on 30 January 2020 to impose a 3 year and 9 month period of ineligibility on the Athlete starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 27 May 2019.
