In April 2018 the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) had reported an anti-doping rule violation against the boxer Ruann Visser after his A and B samples tested posititive for the prohibited substance Stanozolol. After notification a provisional suspension was ordered. The Athlete filed a statement in his defence and he was heard for the SAIDS Independent Doping Hearing Panel.
The Athlete denied the intentional use of the prohibited substance and asserted that regarding the sample collection and regarding the samples various failures and irregularities occurred that could invalidate the test results.
After the testimony of the involved Doping Control Officers the Hearing Panel established that indeed various failures, irregularities and departures occurred of the prescribed procedures regarding the sample collection and the chain of custody that would question the validity of the samples and the test results.
Hereafter SAIDS decides on 27 September 2018 to drop the reported anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete and to lift the ordered provisional suspension. Therefore the SAIDS Independent Doping Hearing Panel decides on 5 October 2018 to acquit the Athlete and to lift the provisional suspension.
