The Nederlandse IJshockey Bond (NIJB), the Netherlands Ice Hockey Federation, has reported in February 2013 an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after his sample tested positive for the prohibited substance cannabis. After notification the Athlete was provisional suspended. The Athlete filed a statement in his defence and was heard for the NIJB Disciplinary Committee.
The Athlete admitted he used cannabis in the weeks prior to the doping control. He stated that in December 2012 en January 2013 he suffered from a serious physical injury and was therefore unable to compete or train. The Athlete argued that he had a depression and used cannabis due to personal problems in that period. Officials confirmed that the Athlete could not compete in that period because of his physical injury.
Considering the circumstances and without intention to enhance sport performance the NIJB Disciplinary Committee decides to impose a reprimand on the Athlete.
