22 Jul 2022

In July 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on behalf of World Athletics has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Indian Athlete Dhanalakshmi Sekar after her sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Metandienone.

After notification the Athlete gave a prompt admission, waived her right for a hearing, accepted a provisional suspension and the sanction proposed by the AIU. The Athlete didn't file a statement in her defence.

Because the Athlete signed and submitted the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form she received a 1 year reduction from the AIU.

Therefore the AIU decides on 22 July 2022 to impose a 3 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 11 July 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Edward Kibet Kiprop

8 Feb 2022

In January 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Kenyan Athlete Edward Kibet Kiprop after his sample tested positive for the prohibited substances 19-norandrosterone and 19-noretiocholanolone (Nandrolone).

After notification the Athlete gave a prompt admission, waived his right for a hearing, accepted a provisional suspension and the sanction proposed by the AIU.

The Athlete admitted the puchase and administration intramuscularly of Deca-Durabolin (Nandrolone) as treatment for his persisten pain and injury.

The AIU deems that the Athlete failed to demonstrate that the violation was not intentional and considers that he gave an early admission and acceptance of sanction.

Therefore the AIU decides on 8 February 2022 to impose a 3 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 7 February 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Eglay Nafuna Nalyanya

20 Mar 2023

In March 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on behalf of World Athletitcs reported anti-doping rule violations against the Kenyan Athlete Eglay Nafuna Nalyanya after her samples - provided on 1 February 2022 and on 12 February 2022 - tested positive for the prohibited substance 19-norandrosterone (Nandrolone).

Following notification a provisional suspension was ordered. Ultimately in March 2023 the Athlete was heard for the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal.

At first the Athlete accepted the test results and denied the intentional use of the substance. She explained that in January 2022 she underwent medical treatment in a hospital in Kenya for her condition and received prescribed medication including  Sustanon (Testosterone).

In support the Athlete produced medical information and the statement from a Kenyan doctor. She acknowledged that she didn't mention to the doctor that she was an Athlete submitted to Doping Control.

For the AIU the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) conducted an investigation into the Athlete's evidence. Thereupon ADAK established in this small hospital the doctor mentioned in the documents did not exist, nor did the Athlete underwent medical treatment.

Furthermore the Athlete's Patient Treatment Card and prescription were falsifications. Sustanon was not available in the hospital and the alleged use of this substance could not explain the presence of Nandrolone in the Athlete's sample.

Consequently the AIU reported in June 2022 anti-doping rule violations against the Athlete for the presence and use of Nandrolone and for tampering with any part of the doping control process.

Again the Athlete denied that she acted intentionally and maintained that she had received a medical treatment. She claimed that the medical documents she had provided to the AIU were authentical.

In view of similar Kenyan cases with falsified medical documents the AIU concludes that a person or persons assisted athletes including someone with considerable medical knowledge. This assistance is not limited to a single case but evidences a pattern of behaviour.

After assessment of the evidence in this case the Panel concludes that the Athlete failed to provide a credible explanation for the positive test results. Also the Panel deems that the Athlete had provided fraudulent documentation and a false explanations to the AIU.

Consequently the Panel determines that the Athlete had committed an anti-doping rule violation for the presence of Nandrolone. Additionally the Panel finds that the Athlete had tampered with the doping control process as second anti-doping rule violation.

Therefore the Panel decides on 20 March 2023 to impose an 8 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 18 March 2022.

26 Sep 2022

Because she signed and submitted the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form she received a 1 year reduction from the AIU.

Therefore the AIU decides on 26 September 2022 to impose a 3 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 9 September 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Esther Macharia

26 Jan 2023

In February 2023 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on behalf of World Athletics has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Kenyan Athlete Esther Macharia after her sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Testosterone and its Adiols.

Following notification a provisional suspension was ordered. In her submissions the Athlete denied the intentional use of the substance. She admitted, without corroborating evidence, that a friend had administered Sustanon (containing Testosterone) as treatment for her joint pain.

Hereafter the Athlete failed to respond to the AIU communications. Ultimately in April 2023 she also failed to sign and submit the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form within the given deadline.

The AIU finds that the presence of a prohibited substance has been established in the Athlete's sample and accordingly that she committed an anti-doping rule violation. Further the AIU deems that she failed to demonstrate that the violation was not intentional.

Therefore the AIU decides on 3 May 2023 to impose a 4 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 21 February 2023.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Fernanda Maita

Therefore the AIU decides on 21 October 2022 to impose a 3 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 21 September 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Fernando Ferreira

9 Dec 2022

In September 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on behalf of World Athletics has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Brazilian Athlete Fernando Ferreira after his sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Cannabis in a concentration above the WADA threshold.

After notification the Athlete gave a prompt admission, waived his right for a hearing and accepted the sanction proposed by the AIU. Following the Athlete's explanation the AIU was satisfied that the Athlete had established that his ingestion of Cannabis occurred Out-of-Competition and was unrelated to sport performance.

The Athlete signed and submitted the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form. He did not follow a Substance of Abuse treatment program approved by the AIU to reduce the period of Ineligibility to 1 month.

Therefore the AIU decides on 9 December 2022 to impose a 3 month period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on 16 November 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Igor Yerokhin

25 Aug 2022

Mr. Igor Yerokhin is a Russian Athlete who previously served a 2 year period of ineligibility until September 2010. Further a lifetime ban was imposed for an ABP violation as second violation including disqualification of his results since February 2011.

In 2016, Professor Richard McLaren issued two reports about systemic doping in Russia. These reports identified a significant number of Russian athletes who were involved in, or benefitted from, the doping schemes and practices that he uncovered.

Hereafter in January 2019 the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) recovered the internal database of the Moscow Laboratory (LIMS). Following investigation of allegations of organized doping practices, and in particular of the LIMS, WADA provided international federations with investigation reports on the athletes implicated in these organized doping practices.

As a result in May 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics reported a new anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete Igor Yerokhin for the use of the prohibited substances GW1516 and Pseudoephedrine in May 2012.

After notification the Athlete failed to respond to the AIU communications. Without his response the AIU deems that he has waived his right to a hearing, to have accepted the asserted anti-doping rule violation and the sanction rendered by the AIU.

The AIU considers that already a lifetime ban was imposed on the Athlete for his second anti-doping rule violation including disqualification of his results since 25 February 2013. Under the Rules the AIU concludes that the 2012 violation shall be considered as a second violation together with the previous second violation committed.

Furthermore the AIU holds that the Athlete's 2012 violation can't be subject to a more severe sanction for the imposition of an additional period of ineligibility, nor disqualifation of his results.

Therefore the AIU decides on 25 August 2022 that the Athlete had committed an anti-doping rule violation without further sanctions.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs Jennifer Gonzalez Caro

16 Oct 2022

On 7 November 2022 the National Doping Control Commission of Chile (CNCD) reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Chile Athlete Jennifer Gonzalez Caro after her sample - provided in Chile in May 2022 - tested positive for the prohibited substance Recombinant Erythropoietin (rhEPO).

On 10 November 2022 the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) reported also an anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete after her sample - provided in Paraguay in October 2022 - tested positive for rhEPO.

Consequently ODESUR ruled on 30 March 2023 that the Athlete had committed an anti-doping rule violation and disqualified her results obtained at the South American Games in Paraguay. Thereupon the case was referred to World Athletics to initiate further proceedings.

Thereupon on 16 May 2023 the Tribunal Expertos En Dopaje Chile (TED) decided to impose a sanction of 4 years on the Athlete for the presence of rhEPO in her sample she provided in Chile in May 2022.

Hereafter in September 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), on behalf of World Athletics, reported multiple anti-doping rule violation against the Athlete based on the Decisions rendered by TED and ODESUR.

Following notification the Athlete failed to respond to the AIU communications within the set deadline. Consequently the AIU determines that the Athlete was deemed to have waived her right for a hearing and accepted the consequences.

Further the AIU considers that there are aggravating circumstances present in this case because the Athlete had used rhEPO on multiple occasions over at least 5 months. These violations justify the imposition of a more sever sanction.

Therefore the AIU decides on 16 October 2023 to impose a 6 year period of ineligibility on the Athlete, starting on the date of the provisional suspension ordered in Chile, i.e on 7 November 2022.

World Athletics 2022 WA vs José Sanchez

17 Feb 2023

In November 2022 the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on behalf of World Athletics has reported an anti-doping rule violation against the Argentinian Athlete José Sanches after his sample tested positive for the prohibited substance Cocaine.

After notification, the Athlete admitted the violation, waived his right for a hearing, accepted a provisional suspension and the sanction proposed by the AIU. He signed and submitted the Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form.

The Athlete explained with evidence that in September 2022 he had chewed coca leaves because of his mountain sickness. He also had used coca tea to treat an upset stomach caused by altitude sickness.

In view of the evidence the AIU accepts that the violation was not intentional and the result of the Athlete's use of coca leaves and coca tea out-of-competition and unrelated to sport perfomance.

Therefore the AIU decides on 17 February 2023 to impose a 3 month period of ineligibility on the Athlete starting, on the date of the provisional suspension, i.e. on 18 November 2022.
